Subject: RESPONSE TO EPA BY October 26: EPA AZM Questions on apples, pears, sweet & tart cherries, blueberries, parsley, and alkali bee beds

Dear Colleagues:

EPA has requested IPM Center feedback regarding the phase-out of the remaining uses of azinphos-methyl (AZM): apples, pears, sweet & tart cherries, blueberries, parsley, and alkali bee beds. (See attached questions).

EPA must make a decision by November 1 on whether to conduct a new risk-benefit assessment for the remaining uses.

So we are asking that you send feedback directly to Tom Myers by October 26, if possible. Myers.Tom@epamail.epa.gov [703-308-8589]. Please copy myself as well.

Thank you in advance!

Subject: Questions on AZM from OPP

Dear Sheryl

As you are aware, the use of azinphos-methyl (AZM) is being phased out. As a part of the phase-out agreement, EPA must make a determination no later than November 1, 2011 on whether to conduct a new risk-benefit determination for the remaining uses of AZM. If EPA decides to conduct a new assessment, it must be completed by July 1, 2012.

To help us decide whether a new risk-benefit determination for AZM will be conducted and to help us understand its current use, we need the most currently available information for the remaining uses (apples, pears, sweet & tart cherries, blueberries, parsley, and alkali bee beds). We believe that OPMP can help us obtain the most recent relevant information through the IPM Centers or other contacts you have. The attached (PDF 394K) list of questions outlines our information needs. A link to the page on the EPA website that outlines the AZM phaseout is also included.

If you have questions please respond to this email or call me at 703-308-8589.

Thank you

Tom Myers
