Dear Ted,

This is a very important material in CA. It is a key material for control of the recently introduced Asian Citrus Psyllid, which vectors Citrus Greening disease. It is also important for other tree, vine and vegetable crops as it has a unique mode of action and fits nicely into resistance management programs.

I do not have any use statistics, as it was registered in CA fairly recently (July 14, 2008). However, I have received many inquires and concerns about this court decision.

We definitely want to see this resolved and the registration continued.

Regards,

Rick

Greetings,

As most of you are aware the registration of Spirotetramat (Movento and Ultor) is entangled in a law suit concerning a procedural mistake made by EPA early in the registration process. The result of the suit was that these registrations would be vacated as of January 15, 2010. A thirty day extension on that decision has been granted and it is legal to sell these products until February 15, 2010. It is our current understanding that you may continue to use Movento and Ultor purchased before February 15, 2010.

We at the Department need to know as soon as possible how critical the loss of Spirotetramat will be to your industry/commodity. We need this information so that we may present it to decision makers here so that they are aware of the impact of the loss of this active ingredient on production of your commodities and Agriculture in general. We do not need mountains of data at this time but do need a clear statement of the importance of this relatively new chemistry in advanced crop protection systems.

I have tried to expand the contact list for this issue. If there are others that you think can improve our understanding of the impact of this legal action please share this correspondence with them.

Please copy responses to both Kent Smith and myself. If you need to phone us and cannot reach me, Kent’s number is 202-720-3186.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or comments.

Best,
